I like this proposal. I added my thoughts about the Professional forum being low-cost pay forum earlier.

I have one additional thought... if a thread on the professional forum is particularlly educational then it may be possible to 'promote' the thread to a section of regular ET as read-only with the user names blanked out. This would allow publicly visible value to be added to ET at a moderators discretion without compromising the users names.

No, that takes away the specialness of ET pro---if anyone can read some of the messages the special value is removed. Why feed those who are out to destroy you?

You would use a friend's credit card to create a phony account on an internet message board? What is wrong with you? This is exactly the kind of crap I'm trying to get away from. That is NOT what a professional does. Hence why I think there should be a "professional" version for people who choose NOT to act that way. You can keep posting under the regular ET with all the other trolls.

Don't worry,Mav. He will be gone the second anything requires verification and or a cost. The person is a serious freegan.

I do think, however, that the original, troll filled, success hating, version of elite will swivel and quickly die off when there's an alternative.

Heck, baron already has the framework for professional created back when he tried to upgrade but the multi alias trolls knocked it down ---

Actually the intent is to use a very small percentage of the threads as a tool to promote ET Professional. The individuals attacted to read the exposed thread are the ones most likely to join the Professional ET forum and be responsible members. It is designed to show the value of the professional forum to reasonable people.... the trolls will simply do what they are doing now.

Yeah, makes sense. But a free trial could accomplish the same thing IMHO .

Honestly, unless Baron starts charging for ET Professional, you don't need to lure people over. Just dealing with the daily cesspool of this site should be enough for the "serious" guys to come over. Besides, the lure of mystery is probably a better lure then showing some random postings.

Quote from Josef K:

My belief is that anonymity is a double-edged sword. It does enable some people to engage in abuse and act like lunatics, but it also allows other people to speak with a degree of candor that they would not feel comfortable with otherwise. Remember, the internet is accessible to just about everyone. It is the most public forum in the world. When you make a statement about yourself on ET, you're not just making that statement to the other members of ET, you're making that statement to the entire world. When you post something on the internet under your real name, you should not post it unless you are comfortable with everyone - including your family, your boss, your coworkers, the police - being able to read it and judge you by it. Anonymity allows people to discuss certain things such as their unpopular political opinions, their sex lives, their heroin addictions, that they would not wish to talk about otherwise. It enables free expression in the face of popular prejudice as much as it enables false bravado on the part of trolls.

But even with safe anonymity, there is no reason that the trolls have to stay with us. If they wished to, the ET mods could practically eliminate all trolls by engaging in consistent and firm moderation and enforcement of the board's rules. As far as I can see, the problem we have with trolls and harrassers is not the result of anonymous membership, but the result of the ET administrators not being proactive enough in removing these people from this site.

Let me address this. There should be no chit chat or P&R on ET Pro. It should be about TRADING. If people want to rant about Obama being a socialist or Bush hating black people, they should stay right here at good old ET. Therefore, there should be no reason why one would be ashamed of what they post publicly on ET Pro. I mean seriously, what could you possibly say about the market or your trading or strategy that would "embarrass" you to the world if they read it? All that stuff you mentioned about sex and politics, that should stay here. I don't see people making political rants on LinkedIn. Because they go there to network, not shoot the shit about George Zimmerman.

As for your comments about the moderators eliminating trolls. And how much are you going to pay them? Do you have any idea how many trolls are on this site? They have infected every single thread on here. They use to live only in the basement. But they have creeped up to the trading forums. I would pitty the moderator who would have to give up his life to weed these people off the board daily and really hourly. Remember these moderators are NOT paid. They are volunteers. It's a thankless job. And they would have to work around the clock 24/7. It's not going to happen. The trolls are here to stay.

Just go over to BMT, they have the Elite membership. One lifetime fee and you get the special section with some goodies thrown in...

Baron could throw 15-20k/year to several paid mods to up the quality. I would adopt a zero tolerance in elite pro. 1 strike you are banned from even accessing the site for a week or whatever, 2 strikes , a month 3 strikes--permanent.

Then keep this site, for the folks who need anonymity, the politicos, and everyone else who wants to shoot the sh$t and talk trading. Nothing would change here---and no reason why folks couldn't use their real names on pro and an alias here. Let get this launched! There is zero downside and all upside ----Baron, I'm ready and willing to help in any way, as I'm sure others are. surf

I looked at that site. It's nothing but vendors and wannabes. Elite pro will be true pro traders/ money managers/ hedgees/ serious amateurs. and the only vendors will be paid sponsors. If joe blow wants real wisdom he will join and b welcomed. I can sniff out bozo vendors from a mile away --- they won't be able to infiltrate plus it will be harder to do with real names.

So given how you behave, you'd end up being banned for life within just one week. Or would the marketsurfer character remain on the old ET while David Goodboy, that fountain of market wisdom, joins ET Pro?
