FYI: THE ISSUE HAS SPREAD ON MY CPU FROM THE INTERNET EXPLORER PROBLEM TO ANOTHER AREA. I AM NOW GETTING THE "NT/AUTHORITY...SYSTEM WILL SHUTDOWN IN 60 SECONDS..." MESSAGE.
I remember this virus from a couple years ago. As a temporary thign, I know that in WIN-NT you can stop this from happening on the fly by goign to run and typing in "shutdown -1" when that message appears. However this doesn't work in WIN-2k. Does anyone know how to do that command in 2k?
Been going through my whole computer to try and find what is causing this. I come up with nothing. Norton and a couple of adware programs are not finding anything.
Like some of you, I can't seem to get IE fully off the computer. My current fix to get on net is putting a copy of another browser on CPU (netscape).
The latest thing I've found that might be a possibility, is a worm that uses these exe's:
smss, csrss, lmhsvc
I would like to delete these, but am aware that at least the first 2 are regular windows exe's, and so don't want to delete them w/o comfirmation that it's ok to do so.

Wondering if this might be the deal. Don't thing so though, b/c when I looked up those files, I find that they have been on my cpu for years, without problems. Can't come up with anything.
Looks like last resort to get rid of this menace is coming on fast: Windows reinstall. What a pain in the ass.
