  • EV battery maker Romeo Systems is in advanced talks to go public through a merger with blank-check company RMG Acquisition(NYSE:RMG). BorgWarner(NYSE:BWA)owns a piece of Romeo.
 
If Covid wasn't here the big story we would be talking about is how no body need 5G.
This would of been enough to crack the market in the old days.

We should be wary that this story is going to keep resurfacing in different ways.

As network providers fight over Gs, few consumers demanding highest speeds

  • Networking service providers are falling all over each other to race to next-generation networks offering blazing speed - whether it's 5G wireless networks (now encroaching into home Internet offerings) or "10G" hybrid wireline networks from traditional wired broadband providers - but those companies dependent on end consumers are getting a reality check from slow demand.
  • All those Gs, and only a small fraction of the market is paying for "one G," so to speak - that is, signed up for 1-gigabit capable service.
  • Only 5.63% of the U.S. broadband market subscribed to that speed of servicein Q3, according to data from OpenVault via NextTV. The biggest share of the broadband pie sits in the segment drawing download speeds of 100 Mbps-200 Mbps, with 36.4% of subscribers.
  • The next most popular (almost 20%) is in the 50-75 Mbps range, followed by a small slice (14%) in the 200-400 Mbps range.
  • Cable Internet providers are commonly offering urban residents speeds of 100-400 Mbps. And rural broadband is another challenge, one where wireless may be offering a better buildout case.
  • The wireless industry's 5G refers to its fifth-generation standards, which can offer gigabit speeds at peak, but commonly offer 50 Mbps-plus. And the cable industry began a "10G" marketing push to brand its investment cycle in hybrid fiber-coax networks it hopes will one day enable 10 Gbps both downstream and up.
  • Those kinds of speeds have more immediate relevance to industrial applications, including factory automation and telehealth.
  • As for consumers, though (whose top use case is often whatever's good enough for a high-definition movie stream), they're not in a rush to add top speed.
  • Adding data volume might be another story; all of that streaming means that within a couple of years, 5-10% of broadband subs will be what OpenVault calls "extreme power users" soaking up more than 2 TB of data per month, vs. about 1% of users at that level now.

NIO is closest to putting out a good looking alternative. Geeze why I didn't load up on NIO at $7-$9 is beyond me. I think I was foolish enough to believe that Trump could effect China somehow with all his bluster and fake deals and fake penalties. I feel like a fool. All the lying accomplished nothing.

This is the hot Robin Hood sector & I wonder. How many of these people so enamored with electric vehicles have actually plugged one in? I understand this save the planet mentality but I also believe there must be a way to save the Combustion engine, a way to preserve some oil jobs. There has been I am willing to bet technology developed that would of eliminated the need for constant fill up with gas.. I bet our cars could go much much further and that tech undoubtedly was quashed by big oil. Big oil was so very powerful they controlled everyhting for a while...now it's falling apart, electric is taking over.

I think VW might have a decent electric car coming out.

I look at my Jeep Wagoneer 1987 parked outside- just back VAN fr0m the gas station with some new gas filters- I am taking her out today! And she probably gets ten miles a gallon maybe 12... But the point is I love that gas engine. We got to keep gas cars around and use technology better to control oil usage and fumes.

I agree about the butt ugly aspect. But who cares about that with last mile delivery? these guys have a tech that can be leveraged with other EV co's. Also, they have a subscription model as opposed to outright ownership. And they have proprietary battery technology that can be leveraged.

Van. we might look into Lidar. Who makes it?

I like to watch those expedition unknown shows and they use Lidar to look at a big expanse of tree cover and they can see beneath and locate ancient alien structures. Now this is the second tme I have heard the technology being associated somehow with Electric Vehicles.

  • XPeng Motors(NYSE:XPEV) announced at the Guangzhou Motor Show that its next-generation autonomous driving architecture will include lidar technology.
  • The Chinese EV automaker said the adoption of lidar will be a breakthrough with it significantly improving the accuracy of positioning relative to other vehicles and objects, even in environments without sufficient lighting.
 
subscription model this is the part that makes them different but I don't get it --what if you cancel your subscription for a few weeks. i just did that with the NY times.
