A very typical trade set up based on ichimoku indicators. All indicators showed a favorable sell set up. Tenkan-sen below kijun-sen, both below the kumo cloud, supported by the chikou span which was also below the kumo cloud. Forward cloud is thin, a concern, not a worry. Importantly was the price action below the tenkan-sen. Placed a sell stop below the recent low.

Initial Stop: 1.2760

Initial Target: 1.2600

Tenkan-sen had crossed over kijun-sen, and both above the kumo cloud. The forward cloud was bullish but thin, and chikou span had yet crossed above the kumo cloud. Price action itself was above the tenkan-sen. The decision was to buy with stop loss below the ichimoku cloud.

Initial Target: 30.5000

Buy near the ichimoku cloud high level with stop loss below the ichimoku cloud low. General trend was upwards. Supporting elements included tenkan-sen above kijun-sen and above the kumo cloud high, chikou span also above the kumo cloud high. Kijun-sen was within the cloud and price action was between tenkan-sen and kijun-sen.

I ceased to use Ichimoku because it is nothing in its ground except coloured lines and creative fantasy. After a row of crippling losses I moved to the fundamental analysis with partly commitment to S&R technical trading. Somebody can still benefit from Ichimoku but I fell I lost the thread of its actual application to the charts...

Tenkan-sen had crossed over kijun-sen, and below the kumo cloud. However, kijun-sen was in the cloud, and chikou span went into the kumo barely after it crossed below. Price action was below and the forward cloud was bearish. Took a position to short when price action near the tenkan-sen.

Initial Stop: 1.6450

Initial Target: 1.5528

INTERMEDIATE COMMENT

Price goes down. However, taking a long term position can be challenging. Profit could be wipe off when the market has a quick U-turn.

Outcome: Price action moved upward sharply. Hitting the target level around an hour time.

Exit: Target hit @ 1.2790

Profit/Loss: +122 pips

THOUGHTS

The price action upwards was assisted by the news. On hindsight, could have set a higher target.

I don't see the edge of using Ichimoku over any other technical tools. I have tested it over a portfolio and it does not provide much value.

The main reason for the trade set up was price action itself was below the kumo cloud. Did not choose to wait for the chikou span to go below the kumo low.

Initial Stop: 109.50, Shifted to 109.00

Add on another position, with price action remaining below the kumo cloud but above both tenkan-sen and kijun-sen.

I agree too.

All things being equal, there will be no edge at all due to the spreads.

I see value in using ichimoku. I am not saying it is better, just that it suits my style and my trading mind.
