4:20PM Interactive Brokers beats by $0.20, beats on revs (IBKR) 32.73 +0.83 : Reports Q3 (Sep) earnings of $0.53 per share, $0.20 better than the Reuters Estimates consensus of $0.33; revenues rose 31.0% year/year to $445.1 mln vs the $356 mln consensus. "The third quarter was an all time record for us, both in our brokerage and in our market making businesses, as both segments benefited from increased volatility and trading volumes in the exchange-listed derivatives space.. Our record results in market making, in a quarter that was challenging for many of our competitors, demonstrate the advantages of our automated systems that adapt quickly to turbulent markets where liquidity is most needed."

Says many competitors temporarily disappeared from the marketplace. Notes that some competitors cannot adapt as quickly to turbulent mkt conditions, and they benefited from this. Co kept focusing on building trading systems, saying they can make long technological strides during period of mkt distress... Notes that mkt making trade volume was up 60% YoY. DARTs were up 46% YoY in brokerage.
