hi guys,
i've been trading options with IB's platform for quite some time now, but can't seem to figure out their volatility trader or more specifically, the VOL orders.
for some reason the demo does not allow(or work, it doesn't show real time prices) me to test it to see it for myself, and i don't feel like losing money trying to figure it out.
so my question is how does the VOL order actually work? i know it is supposed to trade implied volatility instead of the price, but to what extend will the price of the option affect my profit?
for example: if i sell the implied volatility (let's say of a AAPL 520 Call), and the IV actually does go down, but at the same time the price of AAPL goes up, doesn't that mean i was short AAPL 520 Call and the price rise ate my profits from the IV drop?
i would be very grateful if someone could shed some light onto how the VOL orders work, and what happens if i sell/buy volatility trough IB's volatility trader.
thanks in advance!
