IB TWS software

Quote from tomahawk:

Does the stand alone run any slower than the browser version? I've hesitated to run TWS off my HD thinking it might bog down more easily, especially with how bulky recent versions have become.

bog down? I was so heavy it left a smoking crater where my trading computer used to be.

wtf are you thinking man?

why not just install it and see? worst thing that can happen is you'll have to reformat your hard drive. bob does that every third week anyhow, just in case.

The browser based TWS is a great trading platform with TWS's fast data. For charting, QuoteTracker works well with the TWS data and/or TD Ameritrade data.

I haven't seen any new review for this. The most recent review was in 2006, 5 years ago!

Do any of you like IB's Trader Workstation?
Is Browser-based or Stand Alone better?
Please comment. Thanks.

I switched over to IB charts after 8 yrs with Quotetracker. No complaints. But I have simple needs.

also lovin the new tabbed charts. Really helps on the laptop screen as a space saver.

Nice job IB.

Browser versus Standalone. Both are actually loaded on your hard drive. The primary difference is that the "browser" version checks with IB whenever you open the TWS. If there is an updated version available it is downloaded and when it opens you are running the latest version and enhancements. As Bob111 states, you also get the latest bugs. But Bob has been an IB customer for years and complaining about the TWS almost as long, so they must be doing something right. Typically the browser version users do a lot of beta testing for us downloaders.

I personally use the downloaded version as I can control when the updates are installed and am alert for strange happenings.

With the browser login you can select to downgrade to the last previous release but with the standalone you can keep them on your computer until they simply won't work anymore. At some point IB won't let you login unless you upgrade. In that case you want to make sure to have all the versions downloaded so you can go to the next oldest one... I don't think they give any warning either, just one Monday morning you can't login.. that happened to me before, keeping up with the latest TWS is about the last priority for me for some reason...

BTW, what is so "browser" about the browser login? I saw no browser when I played with that, albeit it was very briefly and i might have missed something...
