IB Suggestions & Improvements

LOL Slim ... why don't you just fuck off back to the slimy little hole you crawled out of. :p  :p

PS. And for the prissy mamma's boys who object to the direct language, you can fuck off too :)

Quote from cscott:

As I stated in another thread, the ticket system does not work well, and I do not think this suggestion poll system is feasible either. I'd suggest that IB utilize email for ALL of these things. I won't go into all of the benefits of email over other venues now, but here are some examples:
suggestions@interactivebrokers.com(for suggested improvements)
help@interactivebrokers.com (for regular help)
fast@interactivebrokers.com (for problems that need quick answers)
unresolved@interactivebrokers.com (for problems that have lingered and still not been solved)

NOTE: The above email addresses are ONLY SUGGESTIONS and are not valid.

Do you like reading emails all day? I know I certainly don't.

Imagine if the election process worked by sending a letter to some governing body who would have to read why you think so and so candidate should be president. Then draw a consensus from all the letters read. Not very efficient is it?

Now imagine if candidate so and so lays out their proposal and you get a chance to say yeah or nay? A bit more efficient isn't it?

Now imagine if you get to vote on each of this candidate's proposals...

Hey,
I just checked the TWS Poll, and many of my suggestions I had posted got mangled.

For example,
Code:
1095 Username: fleance
"charting. [url]http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html#cha[/url] ts-cache"
This showed up fine earlier and people had voted on it, but now all the text has been deleted. I don't have the exact text I posted, but here is what I have posted on my TWS Feedback webpage (http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html)
Code:
Charts: Need To cache data To improve responsiveness

The biggest problem with the charts is that none of the chart data is cached. I have two charts with time periods of 2 hour and 3 month. I have the "refresh chart when a new contract is selected" toggle turned on for both charts. I often click back and forth between various contracts, and I can see TWS is reloading the data from scratch each time. I have to wait 2-3 seconds, sometimes more, for the chart to load.

Recommendation: TWS should cache the chart data, and then keep it up-to-date through the data subscriptions, so that switching back to a previoius chart is instantaneous!

TWS needs to take advantage of user's desktop resources; My desktop has 2 GB of memory, and I would add more if it would help. Caching chart data so that reloading a chart happens instantly would really improve user's impression of TWS charting.

The two suggestions I posted yesterday are also truncated.

Code:
1148
	Username: fleance
server. [url]http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html#save-[/url] ettings-online
Here is what I posted:
Code:
TWS standalone should store your settings online, so you can get the same
settings on any computer in the world, without fooling around with
synchronization programs. I run TWS on three different machines, a laptop, a
desktop at home, and a desktop at my office, and I have wasted countless hours
trying to keep my settings synced up between all the machines. Also, when
travelling, I occasionally use the TWS applet, which has it's own setttings.
TWS settings, no matter standalone or applet, should all be stored in one
place on IB's server.

Code:
1149
	Username: fleance
details. [url]http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html#posi[/url] ion-windows
Here is what I posted:
Code:
UI: TWS should postion all dialogs and popup windows to avoid overlapping the windows taskbar.
I have my Windows taskbar at the top of the screen. Whenever TWS pops up a new
or temporary dialog, it is always dispalyed under my taskbar. This forces me to
resize my taskbar temporarily in order to make the title bar of the new dialog
visible so I can drag it lower. Sun added a Window Centering API in JDK 1.4
which IB should use to fix this problem. Follow the link for details.

I'm not sure why only my entries appear to be truncated? I though it was related to the fact I included a URL and maybe it choked, but other entires have URL and they don't look truncated.

Also my #1097 "Charts should maintain a constant spacing and candlestick width, and allow the time period to auto adjust to fill the chart canvas." contains a URL,and that wasn't truncated.

Anyway, IB can you please fix these up? Thanks

Truncated:
Code:
1101 Username: fleance
annoying! [url]http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html#cha[/url] ts-minimize-resets-toggle
What I posted:
Code:
Charts: If I have hidden the menubar and toolbar with the "Sets the chart full screen and back"
toggle, and then I minimize the chart to the taskbar, when I restore the chart,
the menubar and toolbar appear again. I have to click the toggle again to hide
them. Very annoying!

Truncated:
Code:

What I posted:
Code:
Charts: When I resize the graph, the menubar and toolbar popup again, even though I
hid them with the "Sets the chart full screen and back."

Truncated:
Code:
1099 Username: fleance
annoying! [url]http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html#cha[/url] ts-cursor-focus-lost-when-chart-refreshes
What I posted:
Code:
Charts: If I have a chart with "Refresh chart when a new contract is selected",
when I move the cursor on the contract page to a contract, the chart gets
updated, but I lose the cursor focus in TWS. I have to reclick on the row with
the mouse before I can move the cursor again. Very annoying!

Truncated:
Code:
1098 Username: fleance
again. [url]http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html#charts[/url] toggles
What I posted:
Code:
Charts: Preserve the "refresh chart when a new contract is selected" and "Sets
the chart full screen and back." toggles when you save your settings. When I
restart TWS, I find I have to reset these again.
[url]http://fleance.fastmail.fm/tws_feedback.html#charts-toggles[/url]

All of these I saw yesterday and they posted fine, but today they all are truncated.. What's up IB?
Seems like every item I posted except #1097 got truncated.

Quote from JackR:

The suggestions shown on the Poll are all dated between 8/21, a Monday, and 8/24, a Thursday.

There appear to have been approximately 75 suggestions made during that period. Two have been implemented, three have been declined, two are being implemented, and one is scheduled.

So action has been taken on about 10% of the suggestions submitted and the other 90% can still be voted on.

Why doesn't someone suggest that IB show a results summary at the top of the poll page? I'd just as soon let an automated process do what I did and not have to suffer when one of you sharp-eyed folks disagrees with my calculations.

Jack

It is 84 suggestions in total (before the first round of review).
However I noticed 5 suggestions are being deleted. I have no clue why these suggestions are deleted instead of declined, so only 79 are left.

The 2 implementation are not really something. The first one is to raise the limit from 150 characters to 1000 characters. Effortless. The second is not really an implementation. The request simply suggests IB taking priority of fixing existing bugs over implementing new features. IB "implemented" it.

So it is actually 1 being scheduled, 2 implementation in progress.

3 suggestions are declined, but it should be 2 only. I think the reason why #1071 is declined because it is a duplication of #1035 (this one is being accepted), so #1071 is not actually declined.

Acceptance Rate
= (2+1) / (84-1-2)
= 3 / 81
= 3.70%
Note: 1 is deducted from 84 is to take the declined suggestion of #1071 into account.
2 is deducted from 84 is to remove the two non-feature implementations out of the total sample size.

Decline Rate
= 2 / 81
= 2.46%

Deletion Rate
= 5 / 81
= 6.17%

fleance,
You are not alone. I see there are other posts which appears to be truncated. I think the messages are truncated on purpose.

It appears posts which have links tend to be very short after first round of review.
IB may think that since you have included the contents in another page, you shouldn't repeat in the poll page. That's why they condensed your post.

Note: It's just an informed guess. I may be wrong.
