IB Secure Device

Just to answer the recent questions:

Are the login devices portable and useable on more than one PC so I am not required to trade and access account management from only one PC? I for sure do not want a USB device.

IB: Yes you can use on any pc without any specific software installation. It’s not a USB device.

A related question - if you opted out in the beginning, could you then opt in later if desired?

IB: Yes, via account management.

Furthermore, will be allowed to temporarily opt out. Most of the time, the security device won't cause me much inconvenience, but I'd like to be able to opt out when I travel.

IB: No

Thanks for implementing this idea. I've been using the device now for several years to transfer funds. The only thing I don't like about it is the smallish keys. I think this is an outstanding idea. Do I understand correctly that I will simply continue to use my existing security device?

Thanks "Steve IB" for your answer. I am convinced I need one of these devices. I do hope the newer ones have bigger numbers so my tired old eyes can see the numbers without reaching for the magnifying glass.
 
If i get this correctly, exisiting customers with account less than 100K will be enrolled in the security program that the current 100K+ customers are in, is that right?

If this device is not USB, what is it? Are we going to receive in the mail or something? I am a HK resident and currently not in HK. What can i do?

Is this device only used for withdrawing funds? or do we have to plug it into the computer whenever we login to TWS and trade? If it is only for transfering fund, it doesnt really prevent pump and dump hackers, does it?

Will simulated-trading accounts also require "safe" login?

If you have more than one account and / or more than one login name for a given account, will that require separate devices?

With my current device, my logon attempt has at times been rejected because I could not distinguish between a "B" and an "8" or a zero and an "O".

Wouldn't this be the right time to drop the daily forced logout (rhetorical question)?

This is my only real concern. The keys on my first device are very small and almost impossible to use. The 2nd device is quite a bit bigger and easier.

I suggest you consider offering replacements with the larger keys should people be interested.
 
I think this is a great addition for discretionary traders accounts.

I'm not a ATS user, but a possible solution for them would be for IB create a page where they could l authorize a List of securities that can be traded in the account. Or provide limits based on market cap, price, average daily dollar volume, percent of account per position, or other variables. It could be set up in the account management section that could only be accessed with the key fob/ security device most already have.

I am sure people would still oppose this but if you can create a filter that matches your systems filter and position limits it could work. It would also only apply to opening new positions.
