IB Quote Problems

a potential problem for NYSE stocks is that IB does not include some of the regional Exchanges and your level II quotes include all Exchanges. IB does not include them because they don't route to certain exchanges. Not sure if this makes a differance to some??

So, are you saying that IB only updates quotes in "real time" when you send orders on that security?

Or is it just a coincidence that I'm constantly looking at the one right quote out of a 1,000 when I'm testing??

Not just IB anybody, this is a technical issue not something you can see with your eyes; and it has nothing to do with looking at the right quote.

It is network balancing utilizing a priority scheme, i.e. an update on a quote for a security with a live order has priority over an informational quote stream in an overload situation.

If you are putting in an order you would be at the highest priority, hence your point.

Well, firstly I don't believe this is the case at IB during "normal" market conditions.

and you can test this by entering an order from your backup broker, which I have and you will once again see the quotes ARE reliable. IB has no idea that you entered an order via your backup broker thus, if there is no differance in receiving the quote via IB (whether entered from IB or your backup broker)then they obviously DON'T place a priority on quotes with "live orders" during "normal" market conditions.

I am not talking about "normal", who cares everything works; I am talking about the open, close or during a running market.

I do not understand why you are being so defensive of IB's quotes; all vendors have different problems.

You cannot test this kind of stuff on such a small sample and be confidant of your analysis.

IB quotes on MSFT, INTC, ADBE all running 3 seconds behind my RealTick quotes today. I can look at each change in the best bid and offer on my RealTick screen and it is taking 3 seconds for each of those changes to show up on the TWS "Best" bid and offer prices. This is rotten and has a real smell to it. I am having to look 2 monitors over from TWS to try and get prices to enter in TWS in order to enter orders at the market, it is too slow and is costing me thousands in an hour. If RealTick will offer a TWS type trading platform, I will close my IB account.

well, I only got sooooooooo defensive when an individual stated that

"IB quotes normally lag behind RealTick quotes about 1 to 3 seconds."

which they don't

IMO, as I have stated before, IB's quotes are as good as any "retail data provider". Yes, they have issues but so do all providers.

no problems here - IB matching RT - tick for tick

You should look into why this is happening.

Larry & mskl:
My RealTick and IB quotes on MSFT are tracking together at this moment, but the volume has dropped off. Thanks for your last post as that is good information and "food for thought".
