IB Midnight Disconnect

Quote from MarketMasher:

Is there a reason they have to disconnect every day? Can't they afford more than 1 Windows server?
FWIW, Bloomberg has a once-a-day reset/disconnect as well. It allows them to push out security patches and updates.

Why not change your account to a time zone that is outside your normal trading hours or at least more convienient?

Brocklanders: According to IB's website, the asian servers reset at 5:30pm EST. I am thinking about having my account relocated there because this timeframe is great for overnight trading as well as US day.

Same here. Can you provide the link with exact hours. And keep in mind that neither Hong Kong nor Japan have DST, so the reset would start at 6:30 pm EDT in the summer.

Quote from JackR:

Are you familiar with the Control-Alt-R and Control-Alt-F commands?

Go to a blank line in the main TWS window. Then:

For Reconnect - C-A-R,
For data Farm(s) - C-A-F.

No need to restart. These generally work very nicely.

Jack

Data from the cusfuture farm was cut off again last night resulting in no data for products on those servers from about 12:15am and after. I tried the commands you posted once I saw the disconnection had happened but unfortunately it did not recover the connection to this particular server farm and a hard restart was again necessary. The only solution appears to be moving to a different server region.

I'm on the Hong Kong server, which will reset at 4:30pm CST. Makes it easier since I am around to see it, and it usually get all data back in under 1 min. Never had any problems.

Brock:
So you lost data only from the "cusfuture" farm, but not from usfarm, cashfarm, usfuture, usopt, or ushmds2a (or whichever others you get data from)?

Where are you located?

Jack

Hmm...

Has that always been the case? If not, I wonder if the cusfuture farm was just down longer and your restart hit at just theright time?

I (almost) never had this problem before upgrading past 906 late last year. I don't know if this is just coincidental or not but I've tried versions 906.9 and 908 and both have had this problem happen. Last week it happened 3 nights but this week only once. I'm curious what version most are using on here. I've tested 911 but have not upgraded yet. My gut is that it is not completely TWS related and could be more network related.

Interesting problem. Of course it's your money.

Well you are in SC, and therefore on Eastern time. So it could be someone like your ISP doing midnight maintenance, but I really doubt it.

I have an application that connects to the TWS and grabs data. Below is an extract of its log from last night. I've included data starting with the previous evening's last entry. It is not the TWS log which is running at a very minimal level and is of no use to us right now. However, note that there is more than one up/down cycle for the farms. Some of this is probably due to the TWS/farm server protocol, but that's a guess.

You might download pingplotter http://www.pingplotter.com/freeware.html . The link is to the free version. See very bottom of that page. For $25 you can get the version that records the history. It might help.

As to TWS versions. I run two physical machines, in general my "play\paper trading" machine has the latest downloadable TWS and the "live" machine has one version back. I haven't needed to restart either in a long time. When IB was going through the "security token" upgrade I was having a lot of difficulty but I sent some of my TWS log files to IB and they fixed their code.
