guys,
i don't mind you asking questions here as i learn new things about the system/US markets from researching your answers. However, I do want to point out that info on the web site is constantly being updated - in particular the user guide.
i know this as we are in the process of translating it into chinese which i turning out to be a daunting task as new info is constantly added.
in any event:
Text Colors
TWS uses colored text on the screen's black background to represent up and down movement of price and quantity, and order destination information.
YELLOW indicates no change in size or price.
GREEN indicates an upward movement in size or price.
ORANGE (or red) indicates a downward movement in size or price.
For options, the price displayed in PURPLE indicates that the best price is not executing automatically at one or more of the exchanges displayed.

Yes: QQQ are not options but they trade on the AMEX which does have an auto-ex system and a specialist which kind of controls what trades. Since a human is often involved executons are usually slower. This is why many people suggest you route QQQ orders to Island for instant fills.

Hi, I have a quick question.
I always trade NASDAQ stocks and want to see three lines such as BEST, BEST ECN, ISLD for each stock I'm trading.
Whenever I find an interesting stock from chart scan, I have to
1. Type the stock name
2. Select 'Stock' option
3. Select BESt, BEST ECN, ISLD lines.
Is there a way like hotkey to automate this procedure? I really
want to save these repeating time and effort.

I just tried the new build, 731d (applet version), and the new layout manager is really excellent. Columns can be completely removed, and all the foreground and background colors for the main window can be customized. I can't comment on anything else though, since I'm never using new versions of anything for trading until others have found the bugs.
I agree the new layout feature is awesome. Finally,
I will be able to remove all those columns I don't care
about like Bid Size, Ask Size, Exch, Description, Time In Force,
Last Size.
The "Brighten odd rows" feature is kind of annoying, esp.
as it affects the order rows. I turned this off. Also, being
able to choose all your own colors is great.

shortcuts to closing positions (possibly using the new
Position column), and more advanced hotkeys / mousekeys..

A relative BUY (SELL) order is submitted at the current Best Offer (Best Bid) plus (minus) the offset price. If the market moves before the trade executes, the price is recalculated as described and the order is resubmitted at the new price. A relative order can also have a limit price to ensure your order does not exceed that limit. Because RELATIVE orders can use two values (the offset amount and the limit price) you must use the Order Ticket window to submit this order type. Note that RELATIVE orders can only be routed through BEST EXECUTION or BEST ECN.
Sounds good in theory, let's hope it works that way in practice.

One thing I noticed using the new version: I used to open the order panel by pressing my Buy or Sell hot key on the order line. That doesn't work any longer, and using the mouse to click the "O" button is slow and cumbersome.
