Two things, regarding order entry and open order display.
1- When you trade somewhat illiquid issues, you may sometimes have a wide market. Example: a preferred I was buying Thursday or Friday had a market of something like 69.90 / 70.30. When I click on the offer of 70.30, to place a bid, I MIGHT want to buy the offer of 70.30, but in my case, I more often want to do one of the following:
- join the bid (i.e., place my bid at 69.90)
- go in front of the bid (placing mine at 69.91, or maybe 69.9001 on a Nasdaq issue)
- go in at the last.
So I click the offer of 70.30, and then I can click, in the order entry row, on the limit price and get to choose up and down from 70.30. However, that's not going to be a quick route to anything like 69.90 or 69.91. In those cases (which is most of the time, for me), I have to select the existing price, erase the whole thing, and retype the whole thing, allowing me chances to screw up and accidentally end up with 769.91.
2- When displaying an order, I'd like it, ideally, if it showed my SELLs under the OFFER on the market data row, and showed my BIDs under the BID on the market data row. So, in my example above, I might see something like this...
bid size bid ask ask size last...
100 69.90 70.30 500 ....
500 69.91 LMT
.. where the first row is the market data, and the second is my bid.
3- It would be nice to have a quick route to unload your position. For example: say my standard size is 1000 shares, and I now buy a couple units, and now have 2000 shares. Then I try to buy some more, but I get a partial, for 768 shares. I now have 2768 shares. Then the market craps out. It would be very nice to be able to click on my position (which reads 2768), and have it pull up an order entry row defaulting to a SELL 2768 @ bid price.
4- It would be nice to be able to set standard size by symbol, and not globally.
Thanks for listening!
