IB Down again?

it is not nonsense. It does happen at IB every night. IB loose connection once every 24 hours (any farm, slightly past midnight of farm time). We are in US, and it was typically between 12:10-12:30am window. Markets are open at this time, and we had enough issues with entering and exiting positions (not often but often enough), to make us switch to another broker.

However, the issue of this thread, has nothing to do with it.

IB has a 'strange' backup system.
every day, it will disconnect for about 5 minutes.
If you are connected to the IB US server,
the backup will be done during your evening/night time.

If the connection is to the IB Asian server,
the backup will be done during the later part of the European session.

as you said, the issue of this thread is a different problem.

unfortunately, sometimes it lasted more than 5 min. It was anywhere from 5 to 25 min. One of the products our algos trade is Japanese yen. We had instances of trade being filled and stop did not, some issues with closing positions and cancelling exit orders and etc. We immediately get alerted by our monitoring software, but it was painful to deal with this at least 2-3 times per month.

I have to constantly remind myself of this nightly cycle (australia time). Unfortunately, for us it happens just before the US market opens!

But I guess there is no other time for this daily recycle if you are in APAC time zone.

right.

the biggest biggest threat to day traders and algos are
internet disconnect problem/ exchange problem / broker problem.

I have backup internet, backup PC
But if I have an open order and there is an exchange or broker problem,
there is absolutely no solution other than to sue them.

You can ask IB support to move you to US farm if this is where you mostly trade. This way, reset will be around midnight US time.

you will not get a penny, people have tried.

we do not use PC too unreliable. All runs in the cloud in different regions. Both Production and Backup. Backup trades on Sim. Sometimes we see interesting results between live and identical sim trades. :D

IB is having problems executing SPX option spread trades and they didn't bother to put this on the current system status page. Had to phone the help desk to find out, I was basically told to accept delta risk by executing individual legs.:(
