Well, it'd be a strange software issue if that were the cause but I doubt it.
I've got 2 TWS/accts on 2 different computers. Sometimes 1 goes out for 3-5 seconds and the other keeps chugging along. (one is on cable, the other, dsl). But today, 1 tws went down and the other went down with it a few seconds later. So, it was either an IB issue or maybe some internet backbone problem. (I wasn't logged out of my quote providers). My charts were updating while TWS was down and I restarted it.
Don't know what the cause is and frankly I do not care. Just want it to work.
FWIW I have been running at times their simulated account alongside the real account and at times one of them goes down and the other keeps chugging along. And this is on the same computer.....
My datafeed comes from somewhere else (and is very sensitive to ISP problems.........).
When that third party (non-IB) datafeed goes down then IB is down too, and I deduce it is the ISP. Unfortunately IB goes down more frequently leading me to believe that the issue have to be sought at IB's end.
I sometimes have that the quotes on TWS keeps coming while TWS keeps trying to log back in....(and orders cannot be executed).
Stops may not be of any help - that is if they are held by IB and not on the exchange - when IB has the problems.
To the other poster: 2006 has not been as bad as some years ago. I remember that I once stopped trading for over 8 days because it was up and down like a yo-yo. In the end some changes were made to the way TWS got the data from IB . We were all forced to upgrade for the first time. Everything became fine afterwards for quite some time but recently the issues have been increasing.
