It's supposed to suck. If it didn't, you wouldn't be paying $1 for commissions.

IB customer support sucks because they don't have any competition on the market for now. I wish there were some alternatives to IB.

Get a broker who wants to hold your hand. Maybe your mummy is available.
 
Try ThinkorSwim. Great support. However, commissions not as good as IB. No API for retail traders either.

You get what you pay for.
