IB: API problems placing first order of the day (sometimes)

Well, it looks like version 903 of TWS is finally out - they appear to have skipped version 902 entirely, possibly because of the API problems described copiously in this thread.
A brief perusal of the release notes http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/releaseNotes/TWS_Notes_903.php makes no mention of fixes to our little bug. I did a little URL poking, and found that although release 902 seems to be weirdly missing, it does have release notes at http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/releaseNotes/TWS_Notes_902.php that look like an almost complete subset of those for release 903, bar a couple of additions.
So have they actually fixed the API problems? Who can say? Certainly not IB, who seem to want to pretend that it never happened. If you encounter it again with version 903, please post the details here. We know that at least some people at IB are watching this thread.

Correct, TWS 903.4 does not work with IBController, because the login button is disabled by default. I have built a pretty awful workaround that fixes this problem.

Since I have always preferred automatically restarting TWS instead of running it 24 hours a day, this version is reduced to address my needs. For more information see:

Hi, just a short note for anyone who may encounter this thread in future. Yes, release 903 of TWS appears to have finally fixed this problem by creating the API tab when your client connects to TWS rather than on opening the first position.
For those thinking of upgrading to version 903, be aware that the login process has been changed sufficiently for most auto-login code to fail. A big thank you to tron_at for his nice workaround for this; we have applied his change from IBController to our own variant of the AutoButton code published a while ago in Yahoo groups.
