I was poor, but a GOP die-hard

I never said it was not his fault.

The government is both the cause and remedy of the inequality.

It takes power to counter power. In better circumstances the government would counter private wealth and power. But if government is by and for private wealth, a plutocracy, we may have a problem... Still, I'm not hearing of any reps being called "socialist".

Keep those guillotines in good working order, folks.

True. Government is not the cause; it can only modify the circumstances and conditions. Some governments will work on the side of the plutocrats. Some will work on the side of the people. Some will create the conditions under which the people can work toward their goals on their own. Others will stand aside and do nothing.

I hated government -- even as it was the only thing trying to save me. Here's how, one day, I finally saw the light more . . .

Thanks, DB. I grew up poor and realized one day that had one advantage: I never felt ashamed about it. I saw my parents and our neighbors work like dogs but get barely anywhere, so how could poverty be our fault? Our "shame"? Clearly other factors were at work. So I've never understood those poor people who vote against their own self-interests. This article explains it a little.

Few politicians know what it's like to struggle, much less be poor.

I disagree with this in one sense: politics is a tough game, possibly the toughest.
Tougher than trading? Surely you jest.

For most of those assclowns, politics is a con game, not a tough game. Just convince enough suckers you've got their best interests in mind and they vote for you, not unlike huckstering trading books and expensive trading courses to the gullible.

By "struggle" I mean feed your family, keep them clothed, keep them sheltered, keep them safe.

True enough. Persons for whom those things are a real struggle typically don't have the means to operate campaigns, so we don't see them on stage much.
