I voted for Obama because he's black!

Quote from Brass:

That could not have been logical, because by voting for other than one of the two candidates that had a realistic chance of winning, you were effectively negating your vote against the greater of two evils -- as perceived by you. By voting for someone other than Obama or McCain in 2008, you were idealistic at best because you were voting for someone who was effectively out of play and thereby squandering your vote to defeat the worse top candidate -- again, as a matter of your opinion. Your right, of course, but let's not confuse idealism with logic.

No, I'll give you my logic. I live in a deeply blue state, IL. There was 0 chance of Obama losing IL. So I supported a 3rd party candidate because these 3rd party candidates need to get so many votes in order to be eligible to get back on the ballot in future elections. I will always support their cause when I can because one day myself, or perhaps you, will want that "choice". And people like me will allow for that to happen. So by not voting for two candidates who I did not agree with and actually voting for the candidate I did believe in, I not only only made the right choice per my beliefs, but I helped further my cause in the future when this country is going to desperately need that 3rd choice on the ballot.

Okay, against that background I can see your logic. We just disagree on the merits of one of the two principal contenders at that time.
