This is all the more reason for the U.S. to come up with a program which provides illegal immigrants in the country who have no criminal background with some sort of renewable Visa -- so they can come out into the daylight of paying taxes (assigned with a proper SSN/TIN), obtain benefits, and be an official part of the working economy (in terms of banking, etc.)

I agree.Bush,McCain,Rubio etc have tried but racist republican voters want nothing to do with a program that you have described,they just want a wall and mass deportations.

Additionally, There is a large swath of population that is not included in this limited survey of a sub-issue of the original broader question which is...
