Congratulations. Whose advice did you eventually subscribe to? I liked what dandxg said. Are you working with a risk management partner? What markets have you been using?

Imo, the issue, for everybody, is self-sabatoge. It affects us all in one way or another. We punish ourselves. If it wasn't through trading it would be through some other vehicle. This is deep psychology.

The only way to begin to fix these problems is to begin conditioning what works - even if it is painful.

When you first start out, have a hard stop and stick to it...mental stops don't work when you first start out...you will end up exiting a winner fast and staying in a crap trade all day long.
