I Give Him A Week - Max!

Quote from Ricter:

And I would agree with you, but also point out that they are trained because they were military and deployed. Either way, it's important for a society to have its young men busy at something.

Yes, it is. So should we wage war and send them abroad to keep them busy?

No, but we don't have jobs for them here. Their demographic has the highest unemployment, or close to it iirc.

This country has become pussified.

We should be dropping chemical warfare shells and wiping out the entire population and then taking the land and the Minerals. And if no one likes it tough shit.

We need to get back to our roots.

Quicker than I thought. He stepped down.

The bigger question is what does the rest of the military command think of their CIC. It's one thing to have a general disagree with his boss, but if it goes deeper than that, then they have in effect lost the military.

And we know what a great photo-op the military is for Obama.

Quote from Ricter:

You are correct, hence the old, "an army can defeat an army but an army cannot defeat a people."

Sadly, this is a lesson every new generation seems to need to learn.

On the other hand, bringing home all those young men and women to an economy that basically does not need them might not turn out so well either.

I don't totally agree with that. I think a "people" can be defeated. The Germans and Japanese in WW II were two peoples who supported, even venerated their leaders and their war strategy, and they were defeated. Totally. It took mass civilian bombing and use of atomic bombs on civilian populations, but we broke them. Of course, both tactics would be illegal under international law today.

Actually, even the drone attacks on supposed terrorists are arguably illegal under international law. The operators are not uniformed sevice personnel but CIA staffers. The attacks amount to targeted assassinations of civilians who are not engaged in actual combat. Plus, plenty of arguably innocent bystanders get killed as well. All illegal. No one seems to give a shit, possibly because Bush is no longer President.

Afghanistan is a tough nut. The Russians gave up , and they were prepared to do stuff we wouldn't even consider. The irony is we aren't even trying to "defeat" the people. We're trying to give them the freedom to run their own country and not be enslaved by some stone age thugs.

The other irony is we are making the same mistake the Russians did, ie forcing a hated government on them. We should have been satsified with kicking out the taliban, which we managed to do with a handful of special forces operators and indigenous warlords. Instead of trying to create Switzerland, we should have just given those warlords enough money and ammo to keep the taliban out and left it here. As long as they are not giving al qaeda sanctuary, WTF do we care who runs the place?

No reason to stay. Bush and Company lost their minds after the quick success in the invasion and decided to nation build. The temptation to just stay and run the place is too great.

I prefer Thomas Jefferson's response to the Barbary Coast pirates. Go there, kick their ass and leave. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Really? Is that true? I'm not trying to be a dick here, but do you have a source? I'd be interested in reading that.

I believe the root of the problem is the foundation of Neo Cons.
Neo Cons were founded by former socialists and commies.

There is no better way to screw a country up than transfer vast amounts of wealth to oil producing nations - (dads buddies - who were in carlyle group), leave it fighting two wars (dads buddies in carlyle) spend 3/4 of a trillion on TARP and let the fed spend 13 trillion more of dads buddies.

Then bring in carpet baggers to saddle the working class with massive health care costs in a system which can't work, porkulous, the prospect of a massive tax increase and a incompetent response to an oil spill which could rain down deadly toxic rain.

When they write books about what happen to the greatest country ever - they will look at the fist 12 years of this century with disbelief.

If we don't throw just about every official out of office - we deserve to crumble.

Exactly! But no, we're still in the hearts and minds mode of battle. Worked so well in Nam. Let's build some schools and provide indoor plumbing. Who knows, in another decade or two we might have them wiping their ass with something other than their god damned hand.

He's a soldier. If you want a diplomat in that position, appoint one and lose the war.
Fuck him. He's not a soldier. He's an asshole. Every officer and enlisted person in every military branch is well schooled in what concepts of disrespect and insubordination mean.

Just fire the asshole.
