it is a white cop kneeling on the neck of a Black guy who was subdued and handcuffed and laying on the ground until he died. Something that has been happening far too often and examples need to be made.

When are cops gonna learn that you cannot choke people either with your hands or forearm or with a knee nor with a baton? Choke a perp, go to prison for assault... Choke a perp to death, go to prison for murder. Its the only way cops will learn.

It is those union contracts. Administrative suspensions with pay. There is also, a presumption of innocence. Charges need to be brought up first by the investigators. They should file charges on one of the serious allegations to effect an arrest then, bring more charges up as warranted.

It is because, I hope, that they are making sure they can put together the right charges to esnure a real case (you have to charge someone within a fast time of arresting them). I want to believe they are simply making sure they get this case right before issuing the warrants...

Which should have already happened. Generally union contracts do not apply to criminal behavior. The DA should have enough to initiate charges.

Yes but you do not just arrest someone, in this case what will the main police officer be charged with? What about the other 2 or 3 that were there and did nothing? In light of the fact they are officers in the function of their job is this gross negligence or criminal negligence and which people?

You cannot just charge someone for murder. If they are charged with first degree murder for example they will be found not guilty. That is why I believe the DA is working within the law to figure out the appropriate charges for a death attributed to gross negligence during the performance of one's duty or excessive force. Under MINN law it could be Man 1 or Man 2 for the main guy and the other 3 might not even get a charge close to that.

That is why these things often go to a civil trial for punitive damages because criminality of police in making an arrest has become hard to define. If a police officer shoots a suspect running away in the back like happened a few years ago, it was a slam dunk criminal conviction. In this case getting the right charge will be crucial in getting a conviction.

Let us not forget there might be plea deals being disucssed which could preclude any arrest warrant needing to be issued.
