Depends on the overall market, the specialist's mood, other orderflow in the stock, etc. etc.

You've gotta have more to throw at the stock than others want to throw on the opposite side, to move it, AND more than the specialist is willing to soak up.

Takes a very large bankroll, and big nuts....ultimately a great way to blow out an account.
 
If you play like that, you're gonna blow out before you know it.

First it's 1200 shares.

Then you double it again to 2500, then 5000, 10000, above your limit, etc. And then a violently adverse move takes you out.

Your strategy, which isn't really a strategy, shows extremely poor discipline.

murray and deringer, are you evening paying attention? I'm not asking about the strategy in relation to my account. I am talking about the strategy as it relates to price action. I said that I don't average down, normally, so I understand your positions. Thank you for your concern.

They do have a point. You don't take an initial position if you plan to add more .30 cents later.
 
actually, I do just that on my swing trades. When I move my stop up, I usually buy a bit more at that level.

But again, that's not what I want to know.

How much would it take to move something .20? It was almost as if the esv specialist took it down .30 just for the heck of it. It went down on such little volume!
 
Never average losers unless its in your "strategy"

But since you are daytrading,

I don't think it is a good strategy though :)
I cut size down immediately once position moves against my favor.

Some of these trades that lets you profit when you average down are doing you a disfavor because this will encourage your habit to average down.....

Average out when down.
Don't average in :)
