I blew up NinjaTrader7...

I didn't realize that my piker trading journey would blow up the limits of the programming of NinjaTrader 7 software. Well, it finally happened today, and it is Ironical that Ninja is sponsoring this section.

I logged in last night, no problem, to watch some Sunday-night futures action. But I try to log into the thing this morning, and I get a corrupt database message.

I sent in a support ticket, and Ninja support tells me that yes, the database is "full". It has reached max size. Really? I am sure they meant internal database index headers or some shit, because the file itself is only ~700MB in size.

So after 9 years of using NT7, I killed it!

So I had to just move the old .SDF file out of there to let a new one propagate. But I have lost all ATM strats, instruments, trade history, etc. This has happened before on corrupted database incidents in the past, but at least they could recover on a repair through the in-platform repair tool. Not this time though.

The only true loss I care about is all the ATM strats. But since I was using only one or two of the dozens I had created over the years, no big whoop. Just have to recall the parameters, heh.

On the bright side, it is now loading faster on startup. Yay?

*sighs*

No you didn't kill NinjaTrader. NinjaTrader killed your database file and all the data in that file. RIP, your database file. It's had a good life serving you I am sure. NinjaTrader should pay for this!! For murdering your database file!!

Yes, I know. That is what they (Ninjasupport) suggested as well. I just like NT7 better. *sniffs*

You are not the only one. NT7 is lot better than NT8. NT8 sucks!! I couldn't even log into the platform. It took forever to load. They changed the coding of many functions and got rid of many useful ones and completely eliminated dynamic arrays. NT7 is a LOT better. It was a lot more user-friendly. Its user guide was very helpful. I taught myself C# completely by just following the user guide. I missed NT7. I pretty much stopped using NinjaTrader after they decided not to support NT7 at all.

They still "support" NT7, ergo, why I got responses from the support peeps about my issue. It is just that they no longer do upgrades on the platform aside from minor bug fixes. And to be honest, if I know them, they are now working on NT9, and soon NT8 will be the odd-one out.

And if I know software... the next version will be worse than the previous version which was worse than the one before that! They'll add a bunch of worthless features that you don't need and ignore everything you used heavily and liked. They'll also tell you that paid beta-testers and focus groups all clamored for that new crap. Of course, when you upgrade you'll notice that the p/l of all your strats have dropped in half... it's a feature! Don't forget you'll need to upgrade your computer because everything will need 10x more memory for the cool splash/intro screen that can't be disabled. All of this because little Jack and Jill have to have good government subsidized jobs after graduating from a college they probably shouldn't have attended in the first place. Lol, rates will be coming back to zero any minute now...

milk v7 as long as you can ;-)

You can still log in. They would have no choice but to allow you to log in and use it because many people bought lifetime licenses when it was NT7. I hope they can bring back many of the functions in NT7 and its functionalities in NT9. NT8 absolutely sucks, just like Windows 8.

Yes, I have a lifetime license for Ninja, and I have NT8 on my trading machine. I just don't like NT8. Don't make me post the video of Hermann Munster stomping his feet, hehe

curious what exactly you can not do in nt8 that you could in nt7? We using dynamic array with no issues. This is not Ninja but c# function.
