I aspire to be a Trading Guru...

Here ya go:

Search for all upcoming earnings dates.
Get 2 sets of e-mails lists.(set A and set B)
Your forecast to group A should be about how great the stocks will perform after the earnings report.
Your forecast to group B will be how bad the earnings reports will be.

Then after the earnings reports you obviously only go after the one group who would have made $.

Typical "guru" spin technique.

Have fun.

Quote from TGregg:

First, get a new id and use that so you can just vanish when it all hits the fan. Then start making extreme predictions. If they all miss, create a new persona and start over. Eventually you'll hit the jackpot and the markets will make the massive move you forecasted.

Then you milk it for all it's worth. Show everybody the proof that you made the great call that would have made anybody who listened rich beyond the dreams of avarice. Charge em plenty to sign up for your forecasting service. No more wild calls for you, stick to conservative ones that are more likely to be right, and easier to explain when they are wrong.

As the success fades due to repeated failed calls, start charging less for your newsletters, phone calls, text messages and websites. Eventually it all dies down, and you start over with yet another name.

Pretty standard stuff. I should write a book on how to do this. :D

You sound like a pro in this field, is it time for me to be worried yet?
:D

Heh. Sadly, those are not my observations but some author who's name I've forgotten. Might have been Taleb in Fooled by Randomness.

Quote from Ripley:

I was actually thinking about it. I want to write a book and print only a limited supplies of them. So, my books will be going for huge bucks. $2,000 a book etc. Even if the books are good or not, the people who have them won't sell.. b/c they hold on hoping for more.. & the people who haven't read them want to buy it now thus bidding the price up even more.

Then, my $5,000 per presentations wouldn't be too much.

What makes you think you would get more than ten bucks each for these? They wouldnt be worth thousands each until people know you are for real.

Do a search for ProfLogic on here. He's your typical guru that doesn't trade. He used to charge $300 for his useless website (logicalmarkettrends.com) for his "never-fail" calls. His own published track record shows almost no losing trades for several years in a row. It's quite amazing, really, with all of his $trillions that he still teaches. LOL. I heard he had a chat room but people I talked to complained that he was always vague and (surprise!) no one made a penny (except ol' ProfLogic, of course).

Now he's doing seminars for like $3K a pop. It's laughably by the book guruism.

the best way to be a guru is to never let them see you actually trade and make money. just dazzle them with bullshit.

LOL! :D
Reminds me of Richard Gere and his "Razzle Dazzle" song from Chicago movie.

'Cause he's gonna follow the advice of TGregg and uptik2000 before he sells his book.:p

Ripley, didn't you start a thread detailing your struggles to become profitable?

I take it that you are joking in this thread??? Or have you thrown in the towel and decided to go for the 'sure' money?
