you probably did a lot of multiple choice in high school. the answer sheets required you to fill in spaces. when you skipped a question, it is possible you did not skip an row of answrs. each time you did that you lowered your score on the test.
you probably got to the end of tests and at that time rcognized your screwed up the answer sheet somewhere.
