Hypocrisy of the 'pro life' crowd: Laura Ingraham Edition

For nearly 16 months, Karolina Wilson worked as a personal assistant for Fox TV host Laura Ingraham. Wilson handled Ingraham’s scheduling, oversaw her travel arrangements, responded to emails and even worked with Ingraham’s household staff.

Then in March 2017, Wilson, now 28, announced that she was pregnant with her first child. And that, according to a lawsuit filed in D.C. Superior Court, is when things began to become difficult, with the ultimate result that she lost her job.

Wilson is suing Ingraham and her company, Ingraham Media Group, alleging pregnancy discrimination under the District’s Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and its Family and Medical Leave Act.

Ingraham, through her attorney, has denied the allegations.

Wilson alleges that the conservative talk show host became hostile toward her once she became pregnant and then fired her on her first day back from maternity leave. Ingraham allowed Wilson to remain with the company for about three weeks so that Wilson could eventually collect unemployment insurance. During that time, Wilson alleges, the company refused to set up a private space for her to pump breast milk at office in Northwest Washington, and she had to go to her car in a nearby garage.

The suit sounds like complete bullshiat to me. This appears to be one of the common situations where company is very accommodating to a woman returning from maternity leave in a situation where the employee desires to no longer work but stay home with their child. In support of the woman the company allows the woman to stay on the payroll for a few weeks so she would be eligible for unemployment before mutually agreeing to lay her off.

This exit "arrangement" is very common in the professional corporate world for a woman who desires to stay home with their young child. What is uncommon is the former employee biting the hand that helped her out and suing the corporation with made-up nonsense to get more money.

Nothing says accommodating like firing her on the first day she returned to work, you know after giving 'birth to a life' that Cons love so much. If the woman was fired for any other reason, why was she kept for months before she delivered 'life'? My old assistant used to work in the Gulianni mayoral administration in the 90s.

She says Chris Matthews is a psychopath on the left. Of course the majority of psychopaths are not intelligent but when the mix is right.. There are fewer on the left but they learn to blend into their surroundings growing up, they don't care about politics very much but modern conservatism is a much better fit. Few are even as intelligent as Ingram of course, you can see in the clip how she tracks the conversation and counters a little awkwardly but has had lots of practice.

They are "let go" by mutual agreement when they return from leave but kept on the payroll (while not showing up) for an amount of time so they can meet the quarterly requirements for collecting unemployment. This happens all the time in the corporate world.

The only way to get unemployment is to be "fired" -- for many woman returning from maternity they mutually agree with their employer to be "fired" so they can collect unemployment. This is a common practice in corporations in the U.S. if a woman decides to stay home to take care of her child.

If she was fired with cause then she would not be eligible for unemployment and would not collect from unemployment nor would they keep her on for three weeks to be eligible.

Yes, she should thank Ingraham for the great favor of ending her employment which she did competently for over a year - the only thing that changed was that she gave birth and right-wingers can't have that. Once the baby is out, fuck the woman and fuck the child is their policy.
