How's Tim Sykes making more money selling alerts than trading?

Quote from traderchi128:

He is the scummiest of the scum. He sells a bullshit strategy (good luck getting locates on the crap stocks he tries to short) to young wannabe traders who have a few thousand dollars in their account. He basically leads these sheep to the slaughterhouse(between high costs of trying to trade these stocks, and the fact that the only trades most of these new guys will get done will lose money....anyone who tries his trades are doomed).

.

Very common. I'd bet there's more money in the brokerage side of it than in selling signals. Referrals for new accounts and % of commissions. Probably without any government oversight or having to register NFA, RIA, etc. If the edge were that strong or scalable, he'd keep it for himself or start a fund.

And if you just want to play the microcap space, there are plenty of competent bloggers who cover it for free.

DVD sales might be down. His latest advertising campaign reeks of desperation, raw video in a private jet, his private chef & lavish vacations.

my guess, 20 dvds for this one..

Sykes is a failed trader and disgusting attention whore.

It takes no more than 30 seconds on the internet to find out what a piece of shit that guy is. For goodness sakes, the guy was banned from a "Trader magazine" party and was exposed as a fraud and ridiculed.

Anyone paying to follow that scumbag deserves what they get.

The thing is......too many people (especially new traders) are looking for the holy grail.....the "easy" trades. They don't want to put in the time/effort that it takes. They see Sykes ridiculous used car salesman-like website and sign up for his dog and pony show.

I guess an infomercial that comes on at 3 a.m. with him can't be too far away.....

Quote from marketsurfer:

Hey Duke, its great to see you again. Yes, things are great, hope the same for you.

However, I see Sykes as the counterbalance to the penny stock hype masters that put high energy and millions into pumping worthless stocks. What he teaches really does seem to work, its an edge on a small scale for some traders. I truly don't think its immoral or unethical --- Maybe I am missing something, I am open to hear other thoughts--but since when is teaching others how to short overhyped stocks a moral issue?

All is well. Planning to launch a fund in not too distant future. How is married life?

My issue is that he sells something that just does not work. That being said, I never tried his staff since have zero interest in his strategy.

worrying about what other make will do a few things, (1) keep you from making more money, (2) giving them more press. So either sue this guy or make cash yourself....or do what he does. there are still enough jokers out there who will spend money on junk. tim might be that football player who isn't good, but that player gets the paycheck while others troll. who really wins?
