How to research and verify trading ideas

No just regular R. I intended to learn through RExcel since thats where I feel most at home, but after a few minutes I decided that approach would drag out the process dramatically. Once I'm halfway proficient I'll test out RExcel - will let you know how it goes. I will say this about R though, its much easier to get up and running than I thought...its just the damn formatting and graphics that are tricky (for me at least).

Hi Did you use RExcel to do that?
How have you found it?

I thought about trying it but heard it really slows down VBA. Not sure it's worth the effort. Any observations?

It might be worth integrating if performance doesn't suffer. If it does, however, may be just better to run the tools separately.

Oh, ok, so did you just cut and paste from R to excel? It looked as if you did everything in excel (sans plot), but said you did it in R, so I thought you'd used RExcel.

Thanks for that Mike. While I know process is what we're working on and is most important, its nice to have some benchmarks from those who are successful to gain a sense of context. Okay, time to work on possible improvements...

To roughly answer your question: I usually look for a high net profit/drawdown ratio over about 5-10 years for intraday. Usually anything over 5 to 1 gets my attention and over 10-1 is where I may start forward testing live with small positions. The Net/DD ratio assumes fixed position size and zero money management.

Yes thats correct

sisboom, why don't you go elsewhere dump your crap?

For the life of me I just can't fathom why moderators here don't just BLOCK YOUR FRIGGING IP ONCE AND FOR ALL !!

You've been dumping your sh*t all over the forum for years under various pseudo's, enough is enough!

(sorry for the other posters here, just had to vent, can't stand the moron anymore)

I knew you'd find this to say, "registered here for only 6 months", bla bla...

Glad to see though you're smart enough to have figured out by yourself that I've been read-only here for quite some time (well, couple of years or about).

Now can you cut the crap, PLEASE???

You've made your point loud and clear, you can rest your case, I promise!

i already asked him to quit too. i dont really know what his point is... jack is quiet in this thread... there was minimal discussion of his methodology... i just dont get the point.

i guess the mods delete his posts so just ignore. he's probably someone that lost money trading jack's stuff and is angry. i get that but ultimately that's his fault. i'm quite certain i could post exact trading plays in this room and 80% of the people who traded them would lose money while i made money on them. (don't ask i'm not gonna do that lol.) ultimately it's no one's responsibility but yours when you push the button.
