And if we imposed tariffs on China, the consequences would be felt in minutes, not months.
So explain to me how that would be done... are they going to stop shipping their cheap junk to us? Oh wait, that will destroy their economy. Are they going to let the renminbi float? Wait, that will destroy their economy. Are they going to sell their stock pile of U.S. dollars and stop buying our debt? That will certainly destroy their economy.
So exactly how is China going to take us down without firing a shot? Enquiring minds want to know.
Something new. You probably haven't heard of it. It's called (get this) The Internet.
soldiers and weapon technology are power, i don't know what else to tell you. When it comes to bloodshed you either have the assets and will to do something or you get run over, it's really simple.
There aren't any real consequences to imposing a tariff on chinese junk, in the long term anyway.

You might also consider the Boston bombers that slipped right past the CIA, the FBI and *ahem* the DHS. What if their bombs were a little better than DIY? What if instead of one couple there were 20? In Boston, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Denver, etc.
So much for military weaponry.
But you go ahead and wrap yourself up in American Exceptionalism. I'm sure it will keep you warm on those cold winter nights.
So if a day in American turned into what most Muslim countries experience every day due to Islamic terrorism then you are proclaiming it is the end of the world as we know it and American military capabilities are meaningless.
If this type of terrorism was backed by a nation-state then I am very sure that America's superior military will eliminate all future threats at the source.
