He's not going to get it in a MFE program. Hands-on is still the best training, even though many programs are making or have made an effort to lean towards real-world situations.
On of the best is IIT in Chicago. I think they can do this because they don't have such stringent expectations in prestige. It may be easier to be a little more "maverick".
Even at Berkeley or Columbia you have FE graduates that can't automate. They know the ideas but not the steps.
