How to do 3 monitors on Nvidia GT720 ?

just got a new dell. called them...not very helpful even as straight forward as this seems.

card = Nvidia GT720 has hdmi, dvi, and vga ports (1 each)

already have 3 monitors. each of them have vga and dvi ports.

My understanding is I need an adapter for 2 of them? But wanted to ask on here...is there a best stable solution? to hook all 3 to this card?

looks like I could go

-2 dvi into the vga + 1 dvi direct to dvi
-2 vga into dvi + 1 vga direct to vga

No assurance you'll be able to connect all 3... that's up to the mobo/BIOS. Just because there are "3 different ports", doesn't mean you can connect 3 monitors. Makers included various "options" to accommodate one of whatever monitor you might have.

When a maker designs the video board so that you can connect 2 or 3 monitors, they usually have 2 or 3 of the same ports. When they want their video board to appeal to the wide masses, they design with "various ports".. again, to accommodate whatever monitor connection a buyer might have.

IOW... a quad-port video card will have "4 of the same port"... a dual port card will have "2 of the same port". When the card has DIV, VGA, DP and HDMI... it may be that you can can connect "one of each" but more likely "only one of whatever monitor connection you have."

and then 3rd monitor dvi to dvi direct

Spending few bucks will have you the connector.....using that you can have 4 Monitors connected Easily.

If you use a splitter both monitors will display the same image and be degraded to some degree.

haha well that is good to know!

so doing 1 hdmi monitor, 1 dvi, and 1 vga - may not work?

May not. If your computer has onboard video chip that may work with the video card. Then again, may not. Often, mounting a video card disables the onboard video chip.

If you want 2-4 monitors, you really should have a mobo with 2, PCIEx16 slots. Then you could run dual-port video card(s). If you mobo has only 1, x16 slot... it probably has an x1 slot also. Nvidia NVS has last generation 295 cards in x16 and x1. However, not all mobos will run a video card from x1 slot. They're supposed to, but don't always.

There's always the option of a quad-port card for the x16 slot, but most are much more costly than 2, dual-port cards.

got to talking with the techs at dell and they sent me to a supervisor... So he believes this config will work...
