.....if you got the money......other than that France is the only country with true individual freedom (closely followed by most of the world) . France tried to help the US to shake off the shackles of colonialism, therefore tis a pity that the US now practices economic imperialism ( oil) yet criticizes others, rather like the thief becoming indignant that someone stole his wallet.

hope you come here someday, you'll see with your own eyes. you can come here and criticize americans all you want, no one is going to put you in jail, no one is going to deport you (as long as your visa is valid) no one is going to send you a suicide bomber.

I have never claimed the US does not have blood on its hands. No country does. If you look at my previous posts on other threads I have maintained time and time again that the US has had its share of foreign policy debacles and been party to its share of bloodshed. I am not a card-carrying "war monger" who thinks America walks on water.

But you are sadly mistaken and naive if you expect me to put my country on the same moral plane as Nazi Germany or the former USSR based simply because the US also has blood on its hands. Numbers DO count, my friend. Just ridiculous.

I will also maintain that the US is indeed the greatest country on earth and has done more for the good of the world in this past century than any other nation. Yes we have made errors, we are not perfect, but there has never been a more powerful yet benevolent nation such as ours today. Would any other nation with our power exercise the restraint we do? We are the glue that holds the world together. Without the policeman on the block, chaos would reign. And you know it.

You are absolutely right. The problem is the policeman on the block is feared by thugs and appreciated by honest residents. We seem to be hated by both categories. The policeman gets paid for his effort and risks. We actually pay to do the job. All we get in return is accusations in police abuse and police brutality. That does not make sense. I was strongly pro-war believing that after all it was for the good of the whole humanity to remove a thug like Saddam, liberate Iraqi people and add stability to the region. But if the world is so much against it, let them have it their way. Let's save money and american lives and drop this whole matter. If they want to keep Saddam - fine, let them keep him. They want to deal with North Korea, more power to them. They want to apease other dictators and blood suckers - not our problem.

We have so many domestic problems, we can use the money and manpower we save to fix a lot of them. We should continue supporting and protecting our few true friends and let the world sort everything else out without us. We'll manage just fine, let's see if they will without a cop on the block.

Ya know, I often think the same thing. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your level of disgust) it is in our best interests, AND THE BEST INTERESTS FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD, for the policeman to stay on the block and do the job despite the ungratefulness and abuse we have to endure. I think that even those who love to hurl abuse at us realize that we are the thin blue line that keeps the world from totally deteriorating. I mean, who are they gonna call when their neighbor invades? France?
