OT, Freedom Ammunition will credit you $2.50 per pound for brass in their calibres that you ship to them. I weighed a gallon milk jug of 9mm and it was 17.5 pounds. So not a bad deal if you can get it shipped to them cheap.
Combat shooting is like driving a car. Drivers can rehearse things like a ball bounces out between two parked cars == hit the brakes instantly because a kid might be right behind it. It works great, visualization programs the mind to be as quick as a reflex. So the shooter is sitting at the back of the cafe and has visualized what it might be like if violent people came through the front door. He knows how far he can move how fast and how much time he will have to do same if the perps aren't looking his direction and he knows that if only ONE of them looks his direction he can shoot THAT one from anywhere in the room, etc.. He knows that EVERYBODY is moving and the only difference between him and everybody else is he has his weapon out and he's on the attack, not the retreat.. He knows that the perps won't discern what he is doing the first instant they see him and he'll be even one step closer before they even start to respond.. he knows that if somebody blinks their vision won't update what they are seeing for a full half second, etc. and so on... He knows that all of his shots are going to hit intended targets and likely most of the perps shots won't...

Well written. Carrying a gun and being prepared to use it is like carrying an umbrella on a sunny day to keep the rain at bay. Such people tend to have a look about them. Not one that says "shoot me first." More like "leave me the fuck alone." Trouble generally does. Gramps didn't. He was wallpaper. Until he moved. Even when the piece is well concealed, I think I can identify who is packing just from the way they carry themselves. Be interesting to see what gramps looks like when he isn't playing The Shadow.
Not offended here, just a bit bewildered. There is no correct answer to "what would you do?" it seems.
I noticed that when the old fellow took the first shot the perp literally was pointing his non-functioning gun straight at him. If that gun had been working the perp might have gotten off a shot in that instant.
Those two guys have a chance to live and maybe alter the course of their lives. It could happen.
I guess I don't think that there is a 'wrong' decision for the armed man. In my opinion though, he made the better choice by shooting first and not letting it play out. Suppose they weren't silly kids but instead two hardened felons that met in the joint and compared notes? I posted another video a few pages back of a guy walking into a gas station and casually shooting the clerk in the face. I realize there really is nothing but random chance involved in surviving that, but in this case.. why leave it up to chance when you have the ability to alter the outcome?
