Coinbase.com is where I buy my bitcoins from. Its a bit of a process though...they have to verify your bank account which takes a few days...then when you buy, they don't give you your coins for like 7 days. After that, you're good to go. You can also buy coins with cash from other people at localbitcoins.com.
I know its a bit of a pain in the ass for us Americans to figure out how to buy bitcoins. When I first tried to figure it out, I almost thought it wasnt worth the effort. Part of me wanted to buy on ebay, just because I wanted to use a credit card, but with prices 50%-100% higher than the bitcoin exchanges, I was like, no way.

altoid asked where to buy btc, when he realized it was not easy, he started bashing it in other threads. the term sour grapes is so appropriate. if you don't like btc, you can bash it, criticize it, but don't be transparent that the reason is coz you don't have any.
i have friends who bash bitcoins and would not buy it. it's cool. we exchange opinions, and i know they are not interested to own any.
See, I'm on altoids side. When I wanted to buy bitcoins, I went to all these exchanges and couldnt seem to find anyone willing to take my USD because they wont deal with the banks. Had alot of assholes tell me how easy it was to buy bitcoin,but nobody gave me any info, just "if you don't know how to buy it, you should'nt be buying it" kind of bullshit. Many people told me localbitcoins.com, but those people are so paranoid and write a list of shit for you to do before they will send you the bitcoins that i didnt want to deal with them. I just wanted a place to buy bitcoins easily from the comfort of my own home.
So now I just want to help out people that are new to bitcoin, and not give them a bad experience. I know I bashed bitcoin about a year ago before I really did any research on it, so if altoid bashed it, it was probably because he didnt know much about it, then did a bit of research and realized its a pretty good thing.

If you are an American, then currently Bitcoin is hard for you to get (thanks to your government who wants to regulate everything, and Banks who are afraid and/or have their own agenda). Of course this will change in future (American entrepreneurs will find innovative solutions to comply with rules and make it really easy) but till then YOU are an early adopter which will be rewarded accordantly if you invest time and effort to get these precious Bitcoins in a relative hard way....
my thinking exactly. Alot of people see bitcoin and don't understand this is a global phenomenon. If you go into facebook and search bitcoin groups, you will see the majority of the groups are in other languages in other countries. This isnt just american money going into bitcoin, its world money and with the world GDP at $85 trillion as of 2012, imagine what happens if 1% of all transactions eventually end up transacting through bitcoin. Currently about 50-80 million dollars per day passes hands in the bitcoin exchanges. What will happen when 1% of the worlds transaction go through bitcoin or $850 billion? What will that do do the volume on the exchanges? Assuming no speculators (yeah right), you could expect the volume to be about $2.3 billion per day minimum. With speculators, probably $25-50 billion per day.
