how to buy pink sheets/otc stocks

What's the best strategy for buying pink sheets? Often I'll see a 5-10c spread on a $2 stock. Do I just hold my nose and buy on the ask? And often they'll only fill a couple thousand shares, at most. Then they'll move the ask up. So what to do? I use IB.
 
With any broker, in any of these stocks, liquidity will always be a cost of doing business. Very difficult to trade. The market makers that control these markets, have a big edge.
