How safe is it to be online without a firewall/antivirus

Norton will kill cpu usage. Mcafee is not bad at all. I get no difference in download speed while testing with mcafee on or off but with norton my download speed dropped about 40%.

My pc has...

No anti-virus
No Firewall
No pop up blockers
No router (Verizon EVDO)
No XP (Win2000 pro)

Then I use "IE Clean" software ($50)
and set my browser real tight.

The result will be a lean very fast system with no viruses, pop-ups, or spyware. I have 3+ years running like this with zero problems.

Sounds like the equivalent of dipping your stick in bleach and screwing every girl at the bar.

I don't have a firewall or anti-virus, and I've never been hacked. Since Windows 95. I do turn off most services however.

Which one's ?

You can do a 3dmark 2006 cpu test with and without Antivirus and check : http://www.futuremark.com/download/ :D

But i m not realy convince that an antivirus can have an impact in trading software...

All I can say that by switching Norton AV off, but keeping firewall on, X_T started functioning properly, that's just my experience so far.

Maria what is SIF? I looked it up on google, and nothing. I use a Lynksys Blue Box BEFSR41 with NAT. I seems to work well. Thanks in advance.

Dan

Sorry for the late reply.

SIF = Statefull Inspection Firewall

in other words the packets themselves are inspected rather than only at the moment of establishing contact.

(Hope I have explained it correctly, at least this is my understanding)
