How much does gold move if we go back to the gold standard?

I have been trying to figure out what would happen if this did occur. Granted, I know this will not happen any time soon (if ever), but I would like to keep my eyes open to possible future events. I'm not in any gold now but I am considering different ways to get a portion of my money out of dollars.

I'm not sure it can be done at this stage. Given that there's only a certain amount of gold on the planet, doesn't this necessitate a massive destruction in wealth to acheive?
