How, literally, do the non-retail entities trade?

also not to be too skeptical about the level of access the fortune magazine reporters had, but is this his actual working desk? (ie. not a stand-in spot for the photo)

bc:
- the setup seems kind of underwhelming, to be honest -- 4 screens for quotes, +1 for chat, +1 for charts..and the charts seem kind of basic

- not much paperwork, hard copy publications, stationery, notebooks for jotting random notes, etc -- the paperless office trend is going strong, but somehow the desk doesn't look very 'settled in' by someone who supposedly trades obsessively

-for someone who generates that much alpha, and has a reputation for being secretive, he seems quite casual about letting reporters photograph that entire screen setup...if it were you, wouldn't you put up the windows screensaver, instead of showcasing the entire display?

They also have a ticker running around the room. Not sure that makes them better traders or if they ever even look at it at all, guessing not.

Oh my! I guess we can assume he also trades off the old fashion ticker with the huge names on it going around the room in the picture?? I see you drank the kool aid!

That is clearly a posed picture in front of retail looking platforms-- he may even be photoshopped onto the seat. Remember, its called MARKETING-- don't believe the hype.

I have seen that at quite a few institutions, I am guessing only the older guys look at that if at all.

I don't mean to defend Stevie Cohen but he is not going after your money IE he is after institutional money and most institutions had stayed with him even when he was under scrutiny because he can deliver alpha thus he doesn't need to photo-shop for our benefit...
Very impressive just joined Monday and already an expert....
 
I always wondered about this . Is this possible ?
Some entity calls or messages a guy or gal on the floor and they say hey I want this and this at this ... do you accept it or not at xyz range . The guy or gal says yeah , he either works it in during the day moving the market all of a sudden and real quick or shows it in tape right at the close not effecting the market at all . Both maybe. Now we have the guy or gal on the floor front running the big order . Seems like its the way it was setup . They both make money and we need to watch out for it :)
 
Not sure why you think he has to impress anyone. I expect this is his desk and this is REALLY his home. I've was at the SAC offices twice in the 90's, but only saw a conference room.
