How likely is an economic meltdown in the US and Europe similar to the one in Afghanistan?

Not while Powell is hustling to keep his job. Sending everything known to man higher in price. If and when he secures another term

Not everyone wants him to keep his job. For example, the Tlaiban want a Fed Chair to focus on "eliminating climate risk and advancing racial and economic justice." That would teach everyone who wants to curb inflation.:)

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) are calling on President Biden to replace Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell with someone more focused on "eliminating climate risk and advancing racial and economic justice," according to a joint statement reported by Politico.

Driving the news: Powell's term will end in early 2022, though some economists have said Biden will likely reappoint him.

What they're saying: Though the progressive lawmakers recognized that the Fed has "made positive changes" under Powell, they pushed Biden to appoint someone more aggressive on financial regulation and climate change.

  • "Under his leadership, the Federal Reserve has taken very little action to mitigate the risk climate change poses to our financial system," the lawmakers, who all serve on the House Financial Services Committee, said in the statement.

  • "At a time when the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is warning of the potential catastrophic and irreversible damage inflicted by a changing climate, we need a leader at the helm that will take bold and decisive action to eliminate climate risk," they added.

  • The statement criticized the Fed's decision to reduce regulations on big banks under Powell. "To move forward with a whole of government approach that eliminates climate risk while making our financial system safer, we need a Chair who is committed to these objectives."

  • Reps. Chuy García (D-Ill.) and Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.) also signed on.
Worth noting: Few Democratic lawmakers have publicly opposed Powell, but some including Sens. Sherrod Brown (Ohio) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) have similarly called him out on his deregulatory efforts, Politico noted.

News of American soldiers getting back to the US came as a shock for most of us. The soldiers were not less than any hope for Afghans who are against the Taliban. As far as it is about the financial crisis happening in the US because of the financial crunch in Afghanistan, I don’t think anything like that would happen.

the real answer is it depends on the time frame ...
on a long enough time line anything is possible ...

In 1985 the now deceased Clergyman David Wilkerson (living in New York City) released a book named "Set The Trumpet To Thy Mouth", wherein he foretold a plague coming upon America at which time all the bars and restaurants would shut down.

I remember back then thinking to myself, I don't think i would have said that.

It wasn't impossible for me to visualize, but it seemed highly unlikely in my lifetime. You always think such events are for some time way off in the distant future and most times that is a comforting thought if you think there is any credibility to the prophecy at all.

Wilkerson didn't pull any punches and the most alarming of his predictions was on page 1 where he says America will be destroyed within the space of 1 hour, burned up with fire from bombs and few will survive.

Not long ago, i thought of that book and sure enough i still had a copy and pulled it out. I only read the first page and quickly put it away again.

I'd certainly like to think his predictions are not all accurate. I hope that's the case.

Or maybe as in the Biblical account of the city of Nineveh, historians say Jona told of the destruction of Nineveh and forewarned them, after which Nineveh repented and it was another 200 years before they returned to evil ways and were eventually destroyed.

So it's entirely possible, that in the scenario where America would be destroyed, it might be at a later time. I'm not moving to New Zealand, but I'm not one of those who thinks a thing (positive or negative) could never happen here to me in my lifetime.

The stock market crash in 1929 certainly is worse than the Taliban took over.
Lehman collapsing in 2008 came close.
In the future, there are a number of possibilities
A nuclear war?
A pandemics worse than covid19?
A big wild fire that destroys California?
A big storm that destroys New York city?
