Start with demo, you can't go anything wrong with that.
There are so many places on the internet where you can learn how to make first steps in trading.
Probably, the most well-known place for it is youtube where you can find lots of different kinds of information. However, the only drawback is that not all of the knowledge presented there have any connection to the reality. Some of the videos are real trash which are directed at the newbies in order to make them choose certain brokers or even scammed companies. More than that, I personally feel that it is not really convenient to learn something by videos as the information that you get will just disappear from your head immediately.
I strongly recommend to join some forums and trading communities like this. I can say that the most suitable place for forex newbies is babypips. There you can find educational center which contains lots of articles and they are in the right order in order to make you learn about the market step by step. This website also has a forum where you can find the answers to all of the questions which arise in your head.
I should mention risk and money management as the key thing to learn in the beginning. Unfortunately, many resources lack this kind of information but risk and money management is a must to master in order to save your budget from losing it during trading.

I think recent days is easier than a few centuries ago, now with the internet, there are interconnection information easier to access, learn trading forex for free is not a big matter for now because there are so many sources to learn, just need intention in the learning process, don't give up if you really want to become real trader, choosing the reliable broker very important to supporting succeeded

First-time good site recommendation for newbie is babypips, it is very good material education available for learners, with good presentation make easier to learn and understand about forex, but then most important is step is practice use demo account, there are so many brokers offers demo account.
Yeah, until you start trading on a live account, then you'll see all the wrongs. unfortunately real money is gone.
