How High Will Johnny Manziel Go?

The Cleveland Browns desperately need a quarterback, so they commissioned a $100,000 analytics study to help them with the No. 4-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

It's hard to believe this kind of analysis isn't done inhouse at every NFL team. I'm willing to bet that the good teams do it routinely. They aren't just tossing darts or going with their gut.

As traders however, we all know the downside of relying on stat correlations, particularly with limited sample sizes and numerous extraneous factors that may not be properly taken into consideration.

Take Bridgewater's pro day. It was beyond horrible. How can a guy who did what he did flop so badly? it wasn't like someone else was throwing those TD passes in the games. But he didn't just miss on a few throws at his pro day. He showed poor accuracy, questionable arm strength and a general lack of control over the ball, ie just what you'd expect from a guy with small hands and a weak arm.

Regarding the small hands, as i recall Colin Kaepernick had similar sized hands. He seems ok, but he has a big gun of an arm.

I think Minnesota was a good spot for Bridgewater to land. He won't have to play immediately and he will have a low bar in term sof fan expectations.

I don't follow college football too closely. Of course, I was aware of Johnny Manziel, both the hype and the controversy. As the NFL draft finally nears, he is getting a lot of conversation. He's relatively small, but has a big arm and is very quick, plus he has the heart of a lion. Big risk high in the first round, but who wouldn't take seattle's Russell Wilson in the first round now if they could do it over? Isn't Manziel at least as good as Wilson?

Honestly, I had no idea, but after watching this video of his performance in the alabama game, I understand why they call him Johnny Football. Bama was number one and had a defense full of future high picks. For its part, A&M 's offense also featured lock first round picks Jake Matthews, tackle, and Mike Evans, WR.

You don't like this video, you don't like football. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ8xVIgWEBY

Neither Johnny Unitas nor Tom Brady were 1st round draft picks (??)... and what about a "small" Fran Tarkenton? And Russell Wilson... you never know to what heights a motivated man will rise to .

Manziel will make whatever mark he can. If he doesn't go high in the draft, likely many will be disappointed for having passed him up.

Personally, I like the guy.... appears to throw his heart, mind and body into "going for the win". As a sports fan, you gotta like THAT~

:>)

Manziel endured a humiliating drop and finally went at number 22 to a team that has been a black hole for QBs, Cleveland. It's hard to imagine how things could have worked out worse for him.

There are reports that the owner of the team was motivated to draft him after a homeless man advised him to do so. So at least he will have that going for him.

Nice fakeout there, jerry Jones. hehehe.

The Redskins, who foolishly gave up multiple first round picks to move up to draft RGIII, sit at number 34 with a host of tantalizing options on both sides of the ball. They need O linemen, and there are several available. D linemen are always valuable and there are a couple of guys with first round grades available there too. They need another TE and only one has been drafted.

Trading down a few spots makes huge sense for them. If they drop 5-7 spots, they can still get basically the same value with their pick. Maybe they have a guy they are in love with, like Ra'shad Hageman D lineman from Minn maybe, or Cryrus K, the O tackle from Bama. If not, I have to think they will have people calling about the pick. Dealing backup QB Kirk Cousins is also a very possible option.

I wasn't too impressed with the way the Redskins ran their draft. They traded down too many spots in round two, got lucky that Morgan Moses was still there in round three, then took a guy with the extra third round pick they got from Dallas who woul dhave been there much later and wasn't eventhe best guard available. Their other picks were so-so at best.

The media were delighted with the Rams for drafting the homo. Now dads can explain to their young sons why he was kissing another man on the lips.
