How does Buffett do it?

This is exactly the reason. If you put Buffett's holdings in a mutual fund format he will consistently under-perform the S&P. He will go down as the greatest investor of all time but his legacy should be the greatest businessman of all time. He isn't much better at investing than any other investment manager managing a mutual fund who happens to do fairly well.

Quote from Baron:

Mainly because investment professionals buy stocks, but Buffet buys businesses. Big difference.

Quote from Ghost of Cutten:

Most intelligent, well-adjusted people are not stupid enough to go on working once they make 20 mill or so, whereas Buffett, Soros & co are. Thus, the population of billionaires is a tiny fraction of the population of talented performers, only the truly insane will become that rich, everyone else will spend their limited remaining time on earth doing more interesting things.

I agree. Wealth can become a sickness if one is not careful.

Quote from Hook N. Sinker:

I notice billionaire J. Paul Getty, also reported to be one of the richest people in the world about year 1962, uses similar guidelines in his investment and acquisition decisions: "How To Be Rich", by J. Paul Getty ISBN # 0-872-16613-9.

Good book but Getty was born into wealth and made most of his fortune from oil.

Not even with the most wild imagination did I imply that...
You are right.

You implied that someone could return 27% per week.

My mistake, using your example and the amounts previously stated you imply it could be done in 30 weeks.

There is no other assumption one can make from this. That 27% return weekly consistantly starting with the same balance would get you the same end result.

Want to try again.
