How do you know if your video cards are slowing your system down?

Winsig is the most intensive but when the CPU was peaking winsig was still using the same amout of memory.

The slowness gradually built up over about 5 months and I have changed apps so I cannot identify any single cause.

Not really concerned about amount of memory used... what about "percent of CPU"? Which app is using CPU at 60+%?
 
Click on the CPU column heading.
You can sort the CPU usage and see which process is taking up the most of your CPU slices.

I have kept an eye on it during the first half hour ( a bit hectic at the moment for some reason!) and have seen that the CPU usage varies - winSig 41 to 43 System resources 67 to 88. See attached


Had one eSignal hang today for about 10 seconds.

System Idle Process is NOT exactly idle. It is doing system things.

You can google for detail explanations.
