How do I get licensed in fixed income ?

Hello All,

How would I go about getting licensed as a fixed-income advisor?

Also, how difficult is it to set up a company to take on clients and take positions for them?

I'm considering going pro and starting a little bond trading house.

Thanks, Keith :^)
Non-professional - not licensed - not qualified to give advice - opinion only

I can white label you a bond house if you’re serious about having one

Anybody know what certification/license one needs to work as a professional "portfolio manager" or "investment manager" or "hedge fund manager"?
Ie. legally managing other people's investment/trading acccounts, funds.

In the USA...

The Series 7 exam is the starting point for most of those jobs. The technical term is registered representative. Series 7 is really basic stuff, and then you take other exams that cover more specialized products like fixed income, options, etc.

As someone else noted above, when you start out, you have to work for a firm. To start your own firm, you need a higher level of license and exam, that allows you to hold supervisory authority over other representatives. And you can't even sit for that exam unless you have been a rep working for someone else for a certain period of time.

With that being said, there are plenty of firms that will take just about anybody who has passed the basic exams, and give you the platform you need to manage other people's money. But they won't pay you a salary. You pay them monthly fees to carry your license. You are on straight commission, and they won't steer clients to you, either. You have to bring your own clients, or be prepared to go out and find clients.

Sounds like being a real estate agent.

Meaning you’ll be able to operate legally and freely under my FINRA Licenses but the bond house would be listed under your own company for all tense & purposes
Ooh... ok.. Do I need to be licensed?

Also, are you able to sponsor me for licensure? Correct if wrong, but these licenses require sponsorship from a registered party. In other words, I can't just sign up and take the test; I need to be affiliated with an approved company. I'd rather not spin up an LLC just for this purpose.

I would compensate you for the cost.

Correct, I will sponsor you and you’ll be an affiliate market participant of the bond house until you get your FINRA #

Bare in mind fiat instrument markets is a trillion + usd equivalent industry

so if you have the consumer base it'll be worth the effort

Yes thanks I was with a bond execution venue for years… I’ve seen the dollar amounts.

What is the cost of sponsorship?
