How do I Choose before Dell Ships Workstation

I'm sorry, I still don't know. Perhaps the Dell guy can explain the difference between Plain Vanilla, WIM, Ghost, ISO, Image Assist

I understand Scat.

I don't think even he knew. All he said was :

(1) Plain Vanilla
(2) WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist. = All these come bloated with Dell stuff

He also said key will be embedded in MOBO so I can download Vanialla from MS site

The Dell version of Windows is somewhat proprietary as well as the drivers they install. When I tried to update the video card driver from Nvidia's website, I got a message about it being "not compatible with the OS". Then I installed Nvidia's GeForce driver thingy which then allowed the driver to install. (??) Personally, I don't like much of anything that is "proprietary".

Sounds things complicated. Just toss the coin ?

Worst case scenario... you could delete Dell Windows version and "start from scratch" with Microsoft version. Windows Update is actually good about installing proper drivers. (Perhaps Dell's "Plain Vanilla" is actually this?)

Note... before you do this, get a flash drive and format it to boot. Then download Windows from Microsoft. Lots of instruction about this on the web. Once you boot from the flash drive and "execute", the Microsoft install is mostly automatic. With all the updates I'd estimate 1-2 hours for the install. And keep running your old trading rig until your new one is updated all around and working properly.

Good Luck.

Thank you Scat. I always learn something new from you.
