Home sleep aid/remedy

A few other points:

4. Get a boring book that is not trading related.

I don't know...there are plenty of ET threads that would help me go to sleep.

you shouldn't get shin splints if you:

1. Get a quality pair of running shoes.
2. Slowly build up your mileage.
3. Run on grass, trails or dirt roads
4. Try to stay away from sidewalks, pavement, tracks or treadmills.
5. Vary your workouts and run different routes.

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to try a few suggestions and will report back what works.

If anyone else has any, feel free to add.

Thanks again.

This is a topic that I am an EXPERT on and that is sleep.

First, it all starts with the bed you lie in. Go out and get yourself a quality mattress. You will have to spend over a grand to get a quality mattress. I like the Vera Wang "Taken" pillow-top mattress which costs about 2 grand. You can also purchase mattress pads and such that will make the bed more comfortable.

Yep, its very expensive, but the quality cant be beat and you spend a third of your day on this thing. In the morning, you will feel much more rested.

A cheaper solution is the luxury, padded mattress pad that you can find at Target or Walmart. This will give the bed a little extra padding. You can also try the egg-crate foam which is another cheaper alternative to an expensive mattress.

Second, the best stuff is Melatonin. Melatonin is naturally produced in the body and you cant overdose on it. You can find it at any pharmacy and its non-prescription.

Melatonin is not a drug, but a hormone. As you get older, your body does not produce so much and you will notice that you have more trouble sleeping. It is not harmful.

I wouldnt use any prescription medication because it will ultimately not give you that deep sleep you are looking for. The combination of a good bed and Melatonin will give you a very deep sleep.

Careful with melatonin (imo). The dosage in even the lower dosage tabs is MUCH larger than that which your body produces. In addition, there are some indications that melatonin can effect T-production. For example:

Obviously people will respond differently
to various remedies.

I tried melatonin several years ago. I couldn't tell it was doing anything.

Slightly off topic as it's a drug, but I also tried Ambien once. I woke up at 3am the next morning. I considered that test a failure.

I've never been much of a tea drinker but I do plan to try one of those recommendations soon.

My biggest problem is I think too much.
But it seems to depend on what exactly is on my mind when trying to fall asleep. If I'm thinking of anything important, distressing, serious or "real", forgetaboutit. I may be up half the night. But if I'm able (rare) to let my mind wander to something less important or serious, maybe even a fantasy of sorts. I'll fall asleep fairly quick. Even if I don't stay that way long.

Just last Wednesday night I slept 4 hours getting up at 5am Thursday. Although I climbed into bed half a dozen times, I did not sleep again until 8pm Friday. I'll be 46 next month, I'm getting too old for that crap.

Be careful of even "natural" sleep aids. I have taken most of them - including melatonin, valerian, etc.

Valerian is best taken for several weeks before it does much of anything actually, i.e. don't give up after one night necessarily (assuming you can take the smell)...

Quote from Arnie:

Avoid alcohol (white wine is especially bad for me)

Every guy over 30 should avoid alchohol. It screws up the "P450" system in the liver which causes estrogen to build up. Badness....
