Hog/spear hunting

Yes some Boars sure can be tough to spear with a quick thrust into the guts/lungs or ideally the heart.Another way spearhunting is like trading is Boar hunting has often been a test of bravery, like trading can be likened too.

Its a man v beast duel ( winner takes all etc.. ) pure pig-sticking is what we also do on horses.

The horse enjoys it, see how the boar himself, mad with rage, rushes wholeheartedly into the scrap and with your temper thoroughly roused, enjoy the opportunity of wreaking it to the full. Yes, hog-hunting is a brutal sport—and yet I love it, as I love also the fine old fellow I fought/fight against. Not only is boar/pig-sticking the most exciting and enjoyable sport for both the man and horse as well, but I really believe that the boar enjoys it too.

Why do you keep saying "cold steel" when referring to the spears? Is there a difference? Just curious,... I mean if I find myself jones'ing for a spear, I certainly want to get the latest in spear technology.

My " Cold steel " spear is better forged and with a higher composite of steel density, its the way the steel is rolled.
My cold steel spear is especially strong , which is obviously needed taking on a 300 lb hog/boar as sometimes the spear deflects so have to keep on thrusting the spear blade into the hogs guts and chest to make sure it passes. One of my buddies " cold steel" spears is particularly durable as it didnt even flex or bend when he was spearing it in the hogs skull to finish it off. I would only reccommend the " cold steel " versions to be honest.

USDA set for round 2 of feral pig extermination at Havasu

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz.

U.S. Department of Agriculture aerial sharpshooters are returning to the Lake Havasu National Wildlife Refuge for a second attempt to exterminate feral hogs at the refuge along the Colorado River.

However, the facility's manager told the Today's News-Herald that it may take years before the swine are eradicated completely.

The agency began its Feral Swine Eradication Plan last February. The $25,000 operation was scheduled to last two weeks, but federal officials declared the effort a success after less than four days and about 70 confirmed kills.

But Lake Havasu National Wildlife Refuge Manager Rich Meyers said the surviving hogs may have repopulated within the past 12 months.

"Typically, hogs increase their reproduction while under stress," Meyers said. "We're seeing more hogs, and it's possible that they've replenished their numbers."

Feral swine are an invasive species throughout the country, the descendants of domesticated pigs that were released or escaped from captivity. Feral swine can cause extensive damage to riparian habitats while searching for food, and are known carriers of leptospirosis, salmonella and E-coli, presenting a threat to human health when they enter gardens and agricultural land, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said.

Feral swine populations throughout the U.S. exceed five million, a 2015 Wildlife Society study said, and economic losses resulting from damage caused by feral swine is more than $1.5 billion per year.

"Everywhere they are on the Refuge, they're extremely damaging to the habitat," Meyers said. "We won't get them all, but we can take out a lot of the sows and keep pressure on them. After a few years, we'll systematically eradicate them from the Refuge."

Method of forging steel..."cold rolled" or "cold formed". I honestly don't even think the final forging on any weapon or cutlery is done hot.

Hi there,

In order to spear the hogs it all depends on the size of it and also on how longthe shaft is to my cold steel spear. There are always options to go in " Stealth" mode or camo up in ordert to spear the beast when it is not expecting it. My cold steel spear ( new version ) has a 1 ft blade and a 10 ft shaft so obviously have to get within 11ft of it in order to thrust the spear into it. Cant seem to find many options in the US to spear a HUGE hog so we are looking at maybe going overseas to check out other options.

Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks.

Unless its a swift kill which you cant guarantee, meaning death within seconds of contact. Then its torture buddy even if you delete my post.
