I own a Honda, and love it. I stopped by my local dealer, and asked about an all-electric--my idea of fun for a Saturday afternoon

Word on the street is that an all-electric is planned for 2024 or 2025. Right now they offer the Clarity plug-in hybrid, but meh.

Honda will be a BEAST for EVs. They're in that sweet spot among younger drivers, middle-class America, a sporty ride, affordability, excellent Japanese technology, longevity, proven history, a good name, and a worldwide dealer network.

Elon better "lube up" if you know what I mean XD.

No doubt Honda is a top notch auto manufacturer. I bought a Prelude way back when I was umm young and sporty. My mother an Accord. Recent times one Niece a couple of Accords, another a Pilot.

But Honda's Acura division is not Mercedes, which is more along the lines of Tesla's competition. Current competition - though things change fast nowadays.

Yes EVs can maintain a niche market in luxury, but only when they've penetrated the standard vehicle market will they be able to supersede ICEs.

I think that Honda and Toyota are best-positioned to really disrupt the market. I won't buy a Tesla EV because I just don't trust the name; in my mind they're another Delorean; but, I will buy a Honda.

Speaking of Toyota, anyone know what their EV plans are? My guess would be same schedule as Honda.

You totally underestimate Tesla and don’t understand why people are obsessed with the company.
Tesla isn’t just an EV but high tech dwelling unit and technological marvel that can be utilized while simply taking the user from point A to B, even having comfort features for your dog, sentry mode, cameras guarding your car at night from a scratch, and instant updates and new feature downloads. It’s like an iPhone vs rotary phones that those dinosaur car companies still produce, whether EV or not EV.
Those dying car companies are horrified knowing they’re just tinkering with producing their first Blackberry while Tesla is farther and farther ahead of them with iPhone version 20.
To win, they’d need to become a tech startup thriving on technological race, but that would require them to abandon being a car company, which they’re unable to do.
So go ahead and buy your “EV” and enjoy it, just do not try to compare it to a Tesla...

Both brands will bet on their PHEV models as it gives EV range for 95% of commutes w/o compromising long trip range, vehicle dynamics, and refueling times.
 
I bet those Teslas were really helpful in heating up the frozen Texas folks. And if they wanted to drive the max range from the bottom of Texas to someplace with power, say, Nevada, would they have made it? Hmm. How far is it from the south coast of Texas to a state with power to charge up again?

Couldn't make it. I once drove from Dallas to Kingsville, an hour short of border. Then back out through Houston and across gulf states to Florida Panhandle and then down home to Boca.

One other time drove across Texas Panhandle (I-40) from Arizona to Connecticut. But the killer I've luckily haven't had to make yet would be I-10 Houston to Juarez. No way could EV's do that without multiple chargings.

The thing is ICE's also need more than a tankful of gas to do any of those distances and many gas stations were out of power too.

But in Texas and elsewhere, unlike Florida thanks to law passed after Hurricane Andrew, most gas stations have no auxiliary backup power so ......... more shelter in place. Didn't that groundhog "Punx. Phil" see his shadow which means more winter? Oh boy, sorry Texas.
